Need Storage soon? Phoenix Storage, short and long term.

POSTED ON September 28th  - POSTED IN Blog

Need Storage Soon?

When it comes time to move your items into storage, there are some specific things you can do that will make a huge difference, we will show you how to prepare items for storage. Planning ahead can help you avoid headache and aggravation down the road and can make it so much easier to remove items when needed. Here’s some ideas we’ve picked up over the years:

PROS And CONS on Self Storage Units, PODS, And Warehouse Storage:

  1. Self storage units is a easy way to access your unit at anytime. You can add and take things out as you need them. Downsize is that you don’t usually have pads to protect your furniture from scratches and dents. Other downsize if your not a professional packer you may loose space by not packing your unit properly.
  2. PODS: The advantage is you only have to load it once until you need your items back. Disadvantage is you would need to provide your own protection ,such as pads, blankets and ties downs. Pods are usually 16ft and can’t hold a lot of big furniture and you may need more than one POD which can be costly. Also, If you don’t pack the Pod properly your items can break or get damaged. The truck that picks up and delivers the Pods have to tilts the container  to load the Pod on to the truck and your furniture can be damaged when that process is completed.
  3. Warehouse Storage: It is very convenient to having a professional moving company loading and take your items back to there warehouse. Because they are making sure all your furniture is protected with heavy pads and shrink wrap. The price is pretty reasonable for climate control with us @ Jones Moving. The downsize is we aren’t public accuses, for the safety of our other customers in our warehouse. You wouldn’t be able to get in to your storage vault after we pick it up your furniture and unload in to our warehouse. Also, your furniture is double handled. Visit our website for more information http://jonesmoverz.com

Helpful things to do for Self Storage Units:
Dishes
·      Protect your dishes by using special dish packing boxes.
·      Wrap each glass, dish, and cup in its own packing paper or bubble wrap ,cushion the bottom and top of lots of paper – you might also use socks for glasses.
·      Plates and bowls should also be wrapped individually and stacked in boxes in vertical position.
·      Be sure to use plenty of cushioning at the bottom and top of boxes containing dishes or glasses, this will help from crashing the box ,when the box is packed full.
·      Mark boxes clearly with “fragile” and be sure to stack these boxes at the top of your storage unit.
Furniture
·      Take the time to wrap big pieces of furniture such as sofas and loveseats with pads or blankets.  This will keep them clean and make them easier to move. If you have white furniture its best to shrink wrap them to protect them from getting dirty.
·      Stack chairs seat to seat and be sure to put a piece of cloth or paper in between the cushions
·      Be sure to cover other valuable furniture carefully with pads or blankets.
·      Store couches on end if possible to conserve space.
·      Separate the legs of a table from the table when possible to save space.  Wrap each leg in paper, plastic or a towel.
·      Put all hardware (such as nuts, bolts, screws) into a plastic bag and tape the bag to the piece of furniture it belongs to.
Books, Files, Documents
·      Careful not to overload boxes with books – you don’t want them to be too heavy.
·      Use file storage boxes and hanging folders for documents.
·      Be sure to label boxes accurately.
Appliances and Electronics
·      First be sure that all appliances are clean and dry before storing – they can be ruined when stored with even the smallest amount of moisture inside.
·      When possible, store electronics in original packaging.
·      Leave refrigerator door open slightly for circulation.

Other Items
·      Be sure that when filling a box, you fill it completely so it doesn’t collapse.
·      Use empty spaces between chairs and in the tops of dressers to store small items.
·      Mattresses should be wrapped in plastic and stored on their sides.
·      When storing metal items, run a few drops of oil on them to prevent rusting.
·      Artwork and mirrors should be carefully wrapped in plastic or packing paper and then placed in heavy duty cardboard boxes.
Beware of these items:
Totes and tube  have a tendency to break ,collapse, and come open.
Old used boxes can break down over time and when moved a lot.
Loose glass, mirrors, painting, TV’s and picture can break if you don’t pack or crate them in prior boxes.

Be sure to give us a call at Jones Moving & Storage if you have any questions regarding specific items.  We’ve been in the moving and storing business for years and know a thing or two about prepping for storage . Call Seven days a Week 602-944-1413 http://jonesmoverz.com

Making sure every customer have a great moving experienced and by doing that we provide experienced movers on Moving Day.

Hiring a Moving Company Questions

Questions you need to ask yourself before thinking about hiring a moving company is..

1. Do I need help with packing up my house, apartment or office? Ask your moving company if they offer packing service. If so how do you charge? Some companies charge by the hour plus materials and some charge by the box. The downsize to paying by the hour is.. if they aren’t used to doing packing service they could be slow and your paying by the hour.

2. Do you need a estimate? If you have a house or office move you may need and onsite estimate. If you have small move you most likely could get a phone quote. The onsite estimate will help you and the moving company know what to expect on moving day. Note: Most if the estimator are salesmen and have never even touched a piece of furniture. With us at Jones Moving our estimators are experience movers and get right to the point about your move. For a free estimate call us @ 602-944-1413

3. Is the moving company your hiring have a Good reputation in the community? Believe me if they aren’t doing a good job most of the time the public will let you know. The downside is there is a lot of companies that have a review company that write reviews. So do some searching and you can usually see it for yourself. See our Reviews @ Google & BBB

4. Is my movers Licensed and insured? You can ask the for there US DOT # & General Policy. Keep in mind in Arizona you don’t have to be licensed , so that means anyone can open up and moving company. This is a big problem with moving companies in the valley. Because on moving day you may get a crew that does painting or yard one day and next day moving furniture.  Not to mention if they have a damage you will be stuck with damage pieces.

5. What is the cost to hire a professional moving company? In the valley you will find a varies price range. Some companies flat rate the move based on the list of what you gave them. Most companies are by the hour. Here is what you need to find out. What are the extra fees? Like for stairs, heavy items, weekends, fuel charges, wardrobes, shrink wrap and ETC.. With us a Jones Moving we don’t believe in all those extra fees. Keep in mind cheapest isn’t always best, after you pay all the extra fees you may pay more that the middle range companies. Not to mention most of the cheap moving companies hire by labor.

6. Will my moving company protect my wood floors? We always protect wood floors with Professional floor runners.

7. Do they offer climate control storage? Some moving company do offer storage. We offer vault climate control storage.

8. How will my white pieces of furniture be protected? We always shrink wrap white furniture and we do not charge extra for that.

9. How will my furniture be protected on the truck in transit to my new place? Here is a big indication to know if your dealing with

a professional moving company. If they say shrink wrap , that would be a big no, no. Shrink wrap doesn’t protect your furniture at all, expect from dirt. The answer is heavy pads. Some companies use tape on the pads and charge the customer for the tape. We don’t believe in using tape we use big rubber bands its a fast process and free to the customer.

Moving Company and knowing your Insurance Rights!!

Hiring a Moving Company and knowing your insurance rights.

jones_logo

The common assumption is that full coverage is included when a moving company lists itself as a licensed and insured carrier. However, the terms ‘licensed’ and ‘insured’ simply mean that the company has the sufficient auto, general liability, and cargo coverage that the Department of Transportation requires. Most companies offer a 60¢ per lb per article, waiver and release for their standard rates packages. It is important to know that this type of coverage is not the same as full value replacement insurance. However, it is the most standard coverage in the moving industry because no additional fees, descriptive inventory, or value needs to be assigned to the shipment. Moving companies use these contracts to offset the huge amount of liability that the company faces while handling household items.

Also you should know this coverage will not cover any boxes packed by you. Along with loose glass, pictures, mirrors, marble, pots, pottery, plants, press wood or IKEA furniture. Internal Mechanical Contents are not covered as well, like washers/dryers, computers, printers, refrigerators, appliances, copiers, televisions, pianos, fire pits, hot tubs and/or other items containing Internal Mechanical Contents.

The reasons that all insurance companies will not cover any of the items listed above is, they assume you will not be packing up your breakable properly and there is a higher change of those items breaking. Also, for the internal contents, your moving company and the insurance company have no idea if the article was working before the moving company moved it. Due to high insurance claims from many people wanting to claim it wasn’t working to get a new appliance they assume no responsibly for any internal contents.

It is very important for you to hire your moving company to pack any items that have great value to you like china, crystal, or valuable pieces. Packing service is available with us at Jones Moving. http://jonesmoverz.com

pack fragile items

Here are your Options:

1st Option: We Offer 60 cents per pound per article which is Cargo Insurance and is mandated by the Department of Transportation. This is the most common coverage throughout the Moving Industry. This is included in your hourly rate.

2nd Option:  We highly recommend a policy offered by  www.MovingInsurance.com this will cover you for a single piece or full household goods. If you have any questions about the insurance, please call them at 888-893-8835 or visit their website @  www.MovingInsurance.com If you choose to get a policy through moving insurance. Note: The moving company will have to inventory all items and it will take a little longer for your move to be completed.

3rd Option:  Check with your Homeowner or rental insurance carriers to see what they cover.

Beware of Cheap Moving companies:

Scottsdale Moverz

Usually when you receive a cheap hourly rate its usually too good to be true and they don’t cover cargo insurance or general liability. Which means you will not even receive the .60 cents per pound per article. Do your homework and ask them for a copy of the GL Policy.  Check all reviews on any moving company you hire. They might even show up with a trailer like the one in this picture. I spotted this moving company at Bell Rd & Litchfield rd. in Surprise,AZ I was so shocked to see that their is moving companies out there that  treat peoples furniture like that.

Things People Forget to do before Moving Day!!

POSTED ON September 19th  - POSTED IN Blog

Things people forget to do before moving:

jones_logo

  • 1 month before moving, cancel recurring charges

Taking care of gym memberships or other subscriptions may fall by wayside during this crazy time leading up to moving day. Worse, those recurring charges will keep mounting on your credit card while you’re in the unpacking mode. Get started by canceling those at least one month before you move. Especially since many gyms require a 30 day notice.

Can’t get out of your contract or transfer your membership to a facility by your new home or apartment? Sell it through online classified such ashttp://GymTranfer.com (Yes, most gyms allow this!) Don’t forget to unload any prepaid class cards too.

On the flip side, important recurring charges on your credit card- such as mail order medications, might be canceled if your address change hasn’t caught up with billing information. Make a list of services or companies and call them to avoid disruptions in services.

If your planning on moving out of state or local and need to hire a professional mover you should call for a free estimate 602-944-1413

  • 2 Weeks before: Call your car insurance company.

The MVD http://mvdaz.com  advises people moving process to manage their car insurance during the transition, as states have varying levels of required coverages. Even if you’re staying in the same city. Rates can differ from neighborhood to neighborhoods. So call your insurance company well before the move to find out if your parameter and deadlines for updating coverages at your new address.

  • 2 Weeks before: Change your address early.

Most people know there is a http://usps.com U.S. Postal Service form you can fill out to change your mailing address. Don’t wait until last minute to fill the form out to make sure your mail arrives at your new place in time for your life there, complete the form about two weeks before you move.

Call and change your Utility , http://APS.com, http://swgas.com,http://phoenix.gov, http://centurylink.com, http://cox.com,

http://directv.com (to receive $10.00 off per month for your TV Service use code: 83937025 /Candice Jones

For Your Local Move you can call your moving company and in most cases we can assisted with your move. http://jonesmoverz.com

  • 1 Week before: Organize your finances

Important financial tasks are often forgotten in the mist of moving. Since losing track of bills among piles of boxes is all too easy. Setting up systems before moving can easily transition from old home too new. For monthly bills such as phone, rent or mortgages can really help set them up for auto pay, which you can typically do through your bank or the billing company.

Don’t forget to find a place for your pets to go on moving day, such as pet sitter. Its will get pretty crazy for them on moving day.

  • 1 Day before moving:

Do you have special plants that mean a lot to you in your yard and in your house or apartment that you want to take? To make sure you don’t forget them make a list of what plants you want to take and remove them in pots or large buckets prior to moving day. Make sure you don’t pack the shovel as well.

Plan on having a box that has important things you will need once you get to your new place. Things like toilet paper, paper plates, paper towels, silverware, bottled water, snacks, cleaning supplies, Medications, documents and etc..

If you need help moving your furniture on last minute you call give us a call for short notice moving service.

Do your Homework when hiring a Professional Moving Company. Here are some things you should be asking your moving company, if you care about protecting your furniture and your pocket book.
  • Arizona's Premier Moving Services By Jones Moving & storage
  •

Information you should Check in Advance on your Local or Long Distance Movers:

    • Check the Better Business Bureau(BBB)
    • See what our customers are saying about
    • us:  Better Business

    http://www.bbb.org/phoenix/business-reviews/movers/az-jones-moving-in-scottsdale-az-1000011229/add-review

    •    Check with A.D.O.T  at  www.safesystem.com
    • Check on Google & Yelp Reviews to see what other customer are saying about that company                                                                                                                                            (Our Reviews: Phoenix Google Plus)

    https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q=jones+moving+phoenix+az

    •     Ask for their Licensed & Insurance information (Our US DOT# 1851763)
    • Moving Companies are limited by law as to how much they can protect you (liability) for lost or damaged goods. To cover potential damage or loss, check your existing homeowners insurance policy as to whether it can be used as a supplement. Also look into transit insurance as a supplement.  You can Add Extra Insurance thoughhttp://Movinginsurance.com
    • Find out what moving service the moving company performs, Such as Packing Service, Crating Service, Dissemble, Reassemble services
    • What kind of truck will your movers bring to relocate you to your new place? What size is important too?  You may have oversize furniture or maybe moving further away from your old place.  If the truck is to small they may need to make trips which can cost you a lot more in the end.
    • Ask about Extra Fee’s Like for Stairs, Heavy Items, Long Walks, disassemble, Shrink Wrap, Wardrobes Rental, Weekend, Fuel Charges,Pads,Dollies & Etc… Real Moving Companies don’t charge for these things.
    •   Ask if there movers are Experience and how many years. It makes a big difference when they are experience and Not Day Labors, Plumber’s, painters.
    • Ask if they Speak English, So on moving day you can communicate with them.
    •   Always ask what your mover’s process is for payment, Some Non-Professional Movers always demand to be paid before they unload your Furniture in (CASH) Or they will hold your goods hostages until they get paid. By law they can do that, It’s a Civil matter. You have to go to court to get your goods back.  Here are a few expectations: Keep in mind if your moving long distance, it’s normal procedures for the driver to collected before unloading the truck. Its normal for a moving company that has had problems with their past customer paying their bill to take Cash before unloading the truck.

Information you should tell your Moving Company in Advance :

    • Let your Moving Company know how many stairs there are at your home, apartment, office or storage unit as well as at your unloading location.
    • Inform the moving company of low-hanging utility wires or tree branches in your current and new neighborhood, as it may impede the moving truck getting to your residence.
    • Dissembling of washer, dryers, Tv’s , refrigerator, Baby Grand Pianos, Pool tables,  or disconnecting of any opponents , it’s a good idea to let the moving company know about these as well. Some companies will not do this service. We will but you should know, we don’t take any responsible if something goes wrong with pipes, water, hardware, walls or etc..
    • Oversized Furniture is a very important thing to tell your moving company.
    • Your distance from your loading location to your unloading location is important to tell your movers. So your movers can bring the appropriate size truck for your furniture.
    • All packing should be done before moving day, if for some reason you have some packing to do done you should notify your moves prior to moving day and let them know you may need help with some items.

    Bill of Lading and Guarantees

    • You will receive a Bill of Landing on Moving Day, If you wish you can inquire prior to moving day to see moving a copy before your move.
    • For out of state moves , Check that the Bill of Lading clearly includes all charges
    • DO NOT leave your old home before the movers are completed loading the truck and are ready to depart for your new home (or storage, if the case may be). You must sign the bill of lading. If you do not sign the bill of lading upon completion of loading the truck, you open yourself to liability.
    • We don’t require gratuities, but our professional movers can accept any money you offer them. It’s greatly appreciated for the work they do. Note: If the movers are set to come out for packing service you may not get the same movers on moving day. So if you are planning on tipping both crews you should pay tips each day.

Beware of Cheap Moving in Phoenix, AZ

  • Bad Movers

  •     If you are hiring a Moving Company that is charging $35.00 per hour for 2-men or $49.99 per hour for 3-men, it usually too good to be true.
  • They usually charge extra fee’s which always ends up costing more money in the end. If you do the math for the labor, truck fee, gas and insurance, there wouldn’t be enough money for that company to stay in business.
  • So many if these companies charge extra for stairs, heavy items, Shrink wrap, fuel charges, mileage and many more that could end up costing more ,than if you would have went with a reparable professional moving company.
  • When hiring a Licensed Professional Moving Company you will pay less in the end. They usually get done a lot faster with no damages.
  • They usually don’t have a truck and you would need to rent a truck for them to move you. You Might even get a open trailer like the one in the picture above.
  •   Most of the companies are not on Google Maps or Yelp and Some of these companies on Craigslist have changed their name, due to bad reviews.

  •     BE SAFE And Do your homework!! Cheap isn’t always Best!

Common Packing Mistake people make

POSTED ON August 16th  - POSTED IN Blog

 Packing mistakes most people make:

It’s hardly a surprise that with so many things to take care of, the process of moving house often proves toScottsdale Moving Company Jones Moving and Storage Leaders

be more complicated than you have originally planned. Add the constantly increasing move related stress

prior to your moving day, and all of a sudden, you get a highly volatile situation where the number of

unforced and forced moving errors can easily skyrocket

To help you have a stress-free move from start to finish, we’re offering you some common mistakes when packing for your move. Stay on track and stay away from the following bad packing mistakes.

1. To start packing without a plan:

One of the most common mistakes when packing for a move is to just start boxing any household items you can find without having a clear packing strategy in your head or written down on a piece of paper. The major problem with packing up your home or apartment is on a random principle is that although it feels like you’ve initiated the most time consuming process a residential move can kindly offer, in reality you’re only wasting precious time. And time is exactly what you don’t have the luxury of wasting when getting ready to move out. The proper course of action here is to create a personal packing checklist which you can check often and stick to in order to increase significantly your packing productivity. Make sure you also prioritize your packing tasks as well to reflect your unique instance of house / apartment relocation.

2. Leaving packing for Moving Day:

Later is such a dangerous word, especially when you’re about to pack up your home for a move. Of all common packing mistakes, a classic example would be to leave most of the packing tasks for later in order to take care of a “more urgent” job.
The thing to understand here is that, regardless of how much time you have left until moving day, the more you tend to put off packing, the harder it will be for you to actually begin the process. Procrastination will lead to stress, stress will lead to panic, and panic will lead to bad decisions. Usually makes the moving process go longer than expected.
Just make sure you remember this fundamental move related concept: the only way to get something done the right way is to start working on it right away. In other words, initiate the arduous packing process the moment your house move is confirmed.

3. Is Sorting your items is a waste of time:

Speaking of common moving mistakes when packing for a move, another problem when moving house is to assume that the required step of sorting household items can be skipped without any serious issues. Of course, there’s a good reason why some people get the impression that they will save a lot of valuable time by packing everything they own now and sorting it out later when they arrive in their new homes.
There’s only one big problem with this line of thinking – it is completely wrong. In reality, such a packing strategy will not only waste more of your time packing more items will require more time/, but it will also hurt your budget badly the more your final shipment weighs, the more money you will pay for its transportation.
So, don’t skip the pre-move sorting task. In the end, you should take with you only the things you will really need in the foreseeable future.

4. Assume Professional Packers are overrated:

There are plenty mistakes to avoid when packing for a move, and assuming that you can do without professional packing materials is probably the most “innocent” error you can ever make during your pre-move preparations.
The main problem is that often a single misjudgment leads to another, and pretty soon you may become confident that you can manage the packing job with just any supplies you can lay your hands on. Which, in turn, will compromise the packing safety of your entire operation.
For example, don’t use cardboard boxes that are visibly in bad shape as they can easily break under the weight of their own contents and cause you major headaches. While acquiring your packing materials, make sure all of them are clean, dry, and sturdy. If you can afford it, do the right thing and purchase most of the required supplies from your local moving company.

5. Will you need an essential box:

A packing mistake even super smart people make when moving house is to forget that once they place their possessions  into moving containers, they will no longer have access to them until after their shipment is delivered successfully inside  their new homes or apartment. And without convenient access to a number of really essential household items, things can  suddenly become trickier than usual and can become stressful.
Avoid the moving mistake of not packing an essentials box that will contain your absolute life-savers. This is especially  important when you have a baby or a toddler, and a long road trip is scheduled ahead of the family.
Here are a few ideas of what you should consider packing up inside your survival kit: bottled water and sandwiches,  prescription medications, kitchen utensils, spare clothes, basic toiletries, a set of hand tools, toys, documents and specific  items when moving house with small children and/or pets.

6. Overfilling Boxes:

Regardless of what priceless packing tips you’ve read online or heard from friends with considerable moving experience, the worst packing mistakes to avoid at all costs are all connected to safety – safety both for all participants in the move and the actual belongings that are being moved to a new home.
All things considered, spending more money than planned or losing extra hours while placing your stuff inside suitable containers or boxes cannot possible match due to compromised packing safety.
Here’s a quick packing trick that can save you plenty of troubles: use smaller moving boxes for heavy items and bigger boxes for lighter items. Never go the other way round as cardboard boxes and human backs both have breaking limits. Remember to not overfill your packing boxes and keep a reasonable weight limit of single packed boxes of around 40-45 pounds, especially when you’re moving these moving around.

7. Leaving Space in your Moving Boxes:

Another safety related packing mistake that people tend to make is to leave empty spaces in the packed boxes when packing breakable items. This qualifies as a packing error not because the inside of the boxes won’t be fully utilized, but because any available room that is not taken care of through suitable filling and packing materials can cause any fragile objects to come into contact with one another. As a result, such undesirable contacts can only lead to chipped, broken or ruined highly delicate and breakable pieces. So, don’t skimp on protecting and filling supplies! Use crumpled pieces of packing paper or newspapers, as well as sheets of bubble wrap or pieces of old but clean clothing (bath towels are the best!) to fill in any remaining spaces inside a box and  immobilize its contents. A good way to test whether or not you’ve done a good job packing your breakables inside a moving box is to lift the container and shake it gently. If you hear a (muffled) clanking sound or feel that something is moving inside, start over or put more paper in your box.

8. Packing Items you shouldn’t have:

One of the most common packing mistakes when moving house is to prepare certain household goods for transportation only to learn later that your movers won’t load them on their truck due to their hazardous nature. Needless to say, packing non-allowable items will only lead to loads of wasted time and efforts.
Avoid this rookie moving mistake by asking your moving company /http://jonesmoverz.com to  give you the full list of goods forbidden for transportation. Once you have that checklist in your hands, you’ll be able to figure out what to do with each individual item well before your move-out date.
In general, such non-allowable items fall into 4 categories:
Hazardous goods: Propane, flammable, paints, explosive or corrosive substances that can hurt a person or damage the moving vehicle or other possessions in transit.
Perishables: mostly perishable foods that can go bad on the road or ruin other goods.
Pets: it’s up to you to transport your pet(s) safely to your new home.
Plants: your leafy friends can be too fragile to survive a relocation trip.

9. Labeling Boxes;

Are you in the mood to lose hours of valuable post relocation time searching through piles of freshly delivered moving boxes only to find your bedding? We thought so. Interestingly enough, some common packing mistakes when moving house come as a result of overconfidence. A great example of such a moving error will be to assume that you know everything items you packed and will somehow manage to remember what’s inside each box without having to label the containers. Even if you are truly proud of your memorizing skills, it’s good to remember that the chaotic period of moving from one home to another is notorious for playing tricks with people’s minds. Yes, failure to label your boxes correctly is a good example of moving mistakes you don’t have to make. Just take a black marker pen and mark each packed container with its detailed contents, destination room and special handling instructions both for yourself and for your movers. The usage of colored labels for each individual destination room is also encouraged.
Of all the packing mistakes to avoid when moving, the mistake is that you can pack up your entire home on your own is probably the error that can hurt you the most. How much time you will actually need to bring the packing marathon to a successful end will surely depend on how many items you’re planning to take with you and how well you are prepared prior to the initiation of the most time consuming pre-move task of them all.
However, no matter how you look at the tough job ahead, the best way to pack for a move is to have a few extra pairs of helping hands. This way, you are guaranteed that no cardboard box will be left unpacked prior moving day. And while friends are the usual suspects when it comes to relocation assistance, don’t make the ultimate moving mistake of assuming that professional packing services are too expensive to afford. Instead, request a few price estimates from experienced and trustworthy movers, compare them carefully and choose the best one to have a smooth mistake-free house move.
