Scottsdale Movers Who Know the City

Scottsdale is one of Arizona’s most sought-after places to live, and moving here, within the city or away from it, takes a crew that understands how the area works. As Scottsdale movers with a local office, we know which communities need a gate pass, which condo buildings want an elevator booked days ahead and why a July move should start at sunrise.

You might be moving into a high-rise in Old Town Scottsdale, relocating a business near the Scottsdale Airpark or settling into a family home in North Scottsdale. Each move gets the same approach: our movers arrive on time, treat your belongings with care and keep the day on schedule.

The Jones family leads the company: Steve and Candice Jones, with their two sons now helping run it. Steve’s first moving job came at 16 in Birmingham, Michigan, and it was a cross-country move that introduced the couple to Arizona and led them to settle in Phoenix. Read our story.

What Makes a Scottsdale Move Different

Most of the planning for a move here happens before the truck arrives, and it starts at the gate. Many Scottsdale neighborhoods are gated or run by an HOA. Moving trucks usually need a visitor pass, security clearance or a scheduled gate code, and communities such as Grayhawk, Troon North and DC Ranch can set specific move-in and move-out hours.

Some HOAs also limit truck size or want a certificate of insurance (COI) on file before the move date, so ask your HOA or management office what it requires. Send us those rules when you book and we will plan the truck, the crew and the arrival time around them.

Ask your HOA or building about:

  • Visitor passes, security clearance or a scheduled gate code for the truck
  • Move-in and move-out hours
  • Limits on truck size
  • A certificate of insurance (COI) on file before the move date

Condos, Estates, Heat and Snowbird Season

Beyond the gate, these four things shape most moves in the city.

Old Town Condos and High-Rise Buildings

Condo and apartment buildings in and around Old Town usually have loading zones, freight elevators and set move hours. We coordinate parking, building access and elevator reservations ahead of time, and we protect your furniture with pads before it travels through shared hallways and elevators.

Estate Homes and Fine Furnishings

Larger estate properties near Silverleaf or Ancala Country Club often need a larger crew and more packing materials, and long walks from the truck to the front door add time. Our team has specific expertise in moving high-end furniture. For artwork, antiques, stone tables and other high-value pieces, our white glove moving service adds careful wrapping, extra care in handling and placement in the rooms you choose.

Moving in the Summer Heat

Scottsdale summer temperatures can exceed 110°F. For moves in June, July and August, we recommend early morning start times to protect wood furniture, electronics and wrapped upholstery from heat damage during loading and transport. Keep medications, candles, vinyl records and anything that melts with you in the car rather than on the truck.

Snowbird Season and Second Homes

Snowbird season, from January through March, is Scottsdale’s busiest moving period. If you split the year between Scottsdale and another state, book early, and ask about secure, climate-controlled storage for furniture you do not need at the winter home.

Step 2: Get a Clear, Itemized Quote

Your quote lists what is included. If the job changes, we flag any price change before work continues.

Step 3: Plan the Details

We confirm your date and go over gate access, elevator bookings and any HOA or building rules you have shared with us.

Step 4: Packing and Protection

If you choose packing, we use sturdy boxes in a range of sizes, bubble wrap, packing paper, furniture pads, stretch wrap and mattress covers, with specialty packing for fragile and high-value items. Prefer to pack yourself? Ask about moving supplies when you book.

Step 5: Loading and Transport

Furniture disassembly is included on request, and the crew loads the truck in a planned order so heavy and fragile pieces travel securely.

Step 6: Delivery and Setup

We place furniture in the rooms you choose, reassemble what we took apart and, if you want, unpack your boxes.

Scottsdale Neighborhoods We Serve

As local movers in Scottsdale, we move households and businesses across the whole city, from the older ranch homes in the south to the desert communities at the north end. Each area has its own logistics.

Old Town Scottsdale

Condos, lofts and townhomes with tight street parking and building move rules. We coordinate elevator reservations and loading space ahead of time.

South Scottsdale

Established ranch-style neighborhoods where narrow driveways and mature trees can affect where the truck parks.

McCormick Ranch and Gainey Ranch

Master-planned communities with HOAs, greenbelts and lake paths, so we plan truck access and move hours around your HOA’s rules.

Kierland and the Scottsdale Airpark

A mix of condos, homes and offices. Office moves around the Airpark are planned around your business hours to limit downtime.

Grayhawk and DC Ranch, Including Silverleaf

Gated sections with guard check-in and HOAs that may set move hours. Larger homes may need a bigger crew.

Troon North and Desert Mountain

Spread-out desert properties where long driveways, slopes and walk distances add time, so we plan crew size around the property, not just the room count.

Neighboring Paradise Valley

The Town of Paradise Valley borders Scottsdale to the west and has its own estate logistics. See our Paradise Valley moving page for moves there.

Scottsdale Moving FAQs

The cost of a local move in Scottsdale depends on how much you are moving, the distance between your old and new home, the services you add, such as packing or storage, and access at each property. Homes in gated communities like DC Ranch, Grayhawk and McCormick Ranch may add time for gate check-in and longer walks from the truck. Your free quote is itemized, with no hidden fees.

Yes. Jones Moving & Storage is a licensed and insured mover registered under USDOT #1851763 and MC #670510, and a BBB Accredited Business with an A+ rating. If your HOA or condo building has its own requirements for movers, such as paperwork or set move hours, tell us when you book so we can plan around them.

Jones Moving & Storage is a licensed moving company, registered with the FMCSA under USDOT #1851763 and MC #670510. We are a family-owned business led by Steve and Candice Jones, with an office on N Scottsdale Road and headquarters in Phoenix, and you can look up both numbers on the FMCSA website to check our operating status before you book.

Usually, yes. Most gated communities in Scottsdale need a visitor pass, security clearance or a scheduled gate code for a moving truck. Communities such as Grayhawk, Troon North and DC Ranch can set move-in and move-out hours, and some HOAs limit truck size or ask for a certificate of insurance on file. Check these rules with your HOA a week ahead and share them with us to avoid delays on moving day.

For a move within Scottsdale, book 4 to 6 weeks out; for an out-of-state move, allow 6 to 8 weeks. If you are moving during snowbird season, from January through March, or at the end of the month, aim for the longer end of that range. We accommodate shorter timelines whenever our schedule allows, so call even if your date is close.

October through April is the most comfortable window for a move here, since it avoids summer heat that can exceed 110°F. Moves in June, July and August should start early in the morning to protect wood furniture, electronics and upholstery from heat damage. January through March is the busiest period because of snowbird season, so book early for those months.

Yes. Our team has specific expertise in moving high-end furniture, and we plan estate and luxury condo moves across Scottsdale, including homes near Silverleaf, Troon North and Ancala Country Club. Our white glove service covers fine furnishings, artwork and high-value items, with specialty packing for fragile pieces. Three Best Rated has named us a Top 3 Moving Company in Scottsdale every year from 2023 to 2026.

Yes. Jones Moving & Storage handles long-distance and interstate moves to and from Scottsdale, as well as in-state moves within Arizona. We can pack your home, move it and hold your belongings in secure, climate-controlled storage if your new home is not ready. For long-distance moves, plan to book 6 to 8 weeks ahead so we can schedule pickup and delivery dates that work for you.

Tipping is never required, and it is always your choice. Many customers tip each mover based on how long the job took and how hard it was, for example a long day, a lot of stairs or a move in the summer heat. Cold water and a short break in the shade are always appreciated by a crew working through an Arizona summer.
