It’s important to check with your specific moving company to get to know their policies better, but as a general rule these are the items you shouldn’t expect your moving company to transport.

To say moving is a stressful process is putting it mildly. Moving is a time consuming, energy zapping, and sometimes headache inducing undertaking, especially if you don’t hire a packing and moving service to do it for you.
If you’re set on doing it yourself, you’ll want to make sure you’re packing the RIGHT way. Yes, there actually is a right and wrong way to pack!
When it comes to packing your fragile items, here are some tips to follow to make sure your precious pieces survive the journey.
Pick the Right Supplies
It’s easy to think towels, newspapers or rugs would make good packing supplies. The truth is they don’t. Towels and rugs can slip easily during moves and newspaper often leave behind a black residue. To do a move the right way, you’ll want to invest in packing paper. It’s durable and will do the job without leaving any sort of ink behind.
Use Packing Paper or Bubble Wrap Generously
To pack fragile items, you’ll want to place lots of packing paper or bubble wrap at the bottom of the box. You’ll also want to make sure to wrap each individual item in packing paper. Nothing spells disaster more than fragile items stacked against one another without any padding or protection in between.
Think About Weight
No, I’m not talking about your own weight! I’m talking about the weight of your items. Pack the larger items on the bottom and lighter items on the top. Also, make sure not to over pack your boxes. You’ll want your fragile items to be snug, but not piled on top of one another.
When it come time to pack fragile items, the best thing you can do is be prepared and take your time. Nothing’s worse than half hazardly packing fragile items because time is running out…that’s a quick way to ensure your fragile items break during the move!
If you plan to pack fragile items, don’t forget to label the boxes as such so that you know to be extra careful with them. And remember, hiring movers is always an option! If feasible, check the weather beforehand and plan to move on the coolest day of the week. Also, make sure to pack as much as possible the night beforehand. Tip #2: Start Early
When moving in the summer, it’s important to remember that the early morning hours are your friend. Tip #3: Stay Hydrated
Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! Drinking plenty of water the day before and the day of is crucial to avoiding heat exhaustion. Along those same lines, be sure to take lots of breaks and eat a nourishing meal that will give you energy and sustain you throughout the day.
Tip #4: Dress Appropriately
This might seem like a no-brainer but dressing for moving in the summer is harder than you may think. You want to pick lightweight and comfortable clothing, but you also want to pick clothing that can get dirty or torn. You’d be surprised how easily it’s to nick your sleeve on the sharp edge of a dresser!
Tip #5 Don’t Skip the Sunscreen

There’s no doubt about it: moving in the summer is unpleasant. While these tips are designed to help you stay cool and comfortable under the scorching hot summer sun, there’s no getting around the fact that you can’t completely hide from it. In a previous blog, we covered why hiring a moving company is a smart choice; now we’re going to talk about how to hire a moving company, specifically, what types of questions to ask movers to ensure you’re working with the best moving company in your area.
Question 1: How long has the moving company been in business?
This question will give you an idea of their expertise and track record. It’s important to hire a moving company that has been in the business more than a year and knows how to deal with all sorts of belongings.
Question 2: Can they provide client testimonials?
Testimonials and reviews are a great way to evaluate a business. A company that can’t provide any positive reviews, either online or on paper, is a company you should be wary of.
Question 3: Are they licensed?
All licensed moving companies that travel long distance should have a US DOT number which is issued by the Department of Transportation. This shows that they’re a reputable moving company.
Question 4: Are they insured?
Knowing that your moving company is insured will give you peace of mind. Not only should your moving company have car insurance, they should also offer some sort of moving insurance, both of which are extremely important to have.
While there are other considerations to take into account, these four questions are the most important. They will give you an idea about the company’s reputation and character. Hiring a moving company that you feel confident in and can trust to handle your most precious belongings is absolutely crucial. Don’t settle for a company that’s cheap. Spend a little extra for a company that you can be sure will get the job done right.
