It’s important to consider the protection of your carpet  and especially protect your floors on moving day.  With so much foot traffic in and out of your home, you may want to take some precautions to ensure you’re not left with stained or scuffed carpets and flooring.  It’s also a good idea to protect your floor in the event that a heavy piece of furniture skids along the tile or if an appliance scratches your hardwood floors.

Here are some simple things you can do to ensure your floors are safe on moving day.
1.  Carpets – Use either plastic film or carpet masking.  Both will provide protection from dirt and are inexpensive.  Plastic film tends to stick to the surface, so you don’t have to spend time or money on tape.  This is also a great option when you’re moving in rainy or snowy weather as it will keep your floors dry and clean.
2.  Hardwood Floors – Cardboard, rugs, blankets, heavy duty paper, or painter’s drop cloths all work as great protection for hardwood floors.  You’ll want to consider a few things such as routes and safety.  If you can find a quicker route out of the house that eliminates the need to cross hardwood floors, you may save yourself time and money.  When it comes to safety, you want to be sure to use coverings on your floor that will keep the movers from slipping or falling.
3. Furniture Sliders – These can be found at most home improvement stores.  They come in many different shapes and sizes and not only protect your floor, but also make moving bigger pieces much easier.
4.  Plywood  – The ultimate protection for flooring during a move is plywood.  It’s strong and heavy duty holding up under any type of weight.  You can easily move loaded dollies across plywood and you won’t have to worry about dropped furniture or messy work boots.
5.  Booties – You might consider having your movers wear booties.  Booties can easily slip on and off over the movers shoes. They are inexpensive and will also keep out water and dirt.
